Mastering Promotions: Getting Promo ROI Right End-to-End with Buynomics and Salesforce
A promotion never does just one thing. It lifts sales on the promoted product. It pulls volume away from the rest of your portfolio. It borrows demand from your own future weeks, because shoppers stock up. And sometimes it brings new shoppers into the category who stay.
Most promo ROI calculations capture the first effect. One product, one period, one number. Our own worked example shows what that costs: the same promotion reads a 24% ROI when only the promoted product in the promoted week is counted, minus 104% once cannibalization across the portfolio is included, and minus 204% once stock-up is included. One promotion, three completely different answers, and only one of them is the truth.
That is the problem this session addresses. Ingo Reinhardt, co-founder of Buynomics, walks through how the effects of a promotion interact, why isolating them one at a time produces numbers that reassure rather than warn, and what it takes to assess a promotion holistically, across products and across periods.
Getting the number right is half the job. A revised promotional plan only creates value once it reaches the system the business actually executes against. Tim Hall from Salesforce closes the session with a live walkthrough of the two-way integration between Buynomics and Salesforce Consumer Goods Cloud, so an optimized plan becomes the plan of record rather than a recommendation in a separate file.
What you'll take away:
- The four effects every promotion sets off at once: direct uplift, cannibalization within your portfolio, stock-up that shifts volume out of later weeks, and new shoppers
- Why promo ROI measured on the promoted product in the promoted week systematically overstates performance, and what has to be included instead
- What a holistic promotion assessment looks like in practice, from a single promotion to a full promotional plan
- How an optimized plan moves into Salesforce Consumer Goods Cloud, and back, so optimization feeds directly into execution
