Nestlé • Buynomics

How Nestlé went from "I think..." to "I know..."

Nestlé USA replaced PPA guesswork with fast, confident decisions

Nestlé operates more than 2,000 brands worldwide across coffee, pet care, nutrition, and food and snacks, including Nespresso, KitKat, and Purina, with a presence in 185 countries.

Before Buynomics, testing an early-funnel Price Pack Architecture (PPA) idea meant commissioning a consumer study. Useful but slow: each study took weeks to field, and the team could test only a handful of ideas at a time. Ideation moved at the pace of the research calendar, not the business.

A key reason Nestlé USA chose Buynomics is that it helps answer the question "What will someone do in the future?" Understanding what shoppers are likely to do next matters far more than understanding what they've done in the past.

Since implementing Buynomics, the team can:

  • Test different ideas in seconds, not weeks
  • See the impact of those ideas on their own portfolio and the wider category, including whether an idea grows the retailer’s category
  • Get fast, upper-funnel feedback earlier in the PPA ideation process, before a concept ever reaches a consumer study
AI Powered

"Buynomics' biggest value is that it shifts you from backward-looking analysis to reliably predicting what consumers will do next, which is the edge you need when they're moving faster than historical data can keep up."

Tool Ability

"I'd recommend Buynomics to my peers because the data science is strong. Their tools are solid, and the math is really good. That's what matters most."

Collaborative Partnership

“As an RGM practitioner, half of what I look for in a good vendor partner is someone willing to work with me, meet me where I am, and tailor their approach to my context. I've found that to be the case here."

Data-driven decisions:

Nestle USA’s strategy for growing the category and responding to competitor moves

Two examples that show how Buynomics helps Nestlé USA:

1. A pack in the portfolio was underperforming.

The team felt there was headroom based on a willingness-to-pay statement, so they weighed a range of options: raise the price, change the pack's attributes, or find some combination that would actually grow the category. Buynomics helped show that the best solution was to improve the product's quality, make it a little bigger, and raise the price accordingly. Doing that together let the team build better value.

2. Knowing when to act and when not to act.

When a competitor or private-label product moves, the team uses Buynomics to scenario-plan the response: should they react, and if so, how? In one recent case, after weighing a few options, they concluded there was no need to act at all, a decision they could make with confidence rather than guesswork.

Increased Visibility

"Buynomics gave us an answer we probably wouldn't have seen otherwise, and let us take an action we wouldn't have been able to take without it."

Scenario Planning

“Buynomics lets us scenario-plan: that competitor moved, that private-label product moved, what should we do? We looked at a few options recently and concluded we didn't need to do anything. It stops the swirl and moves the conversation from spinning on a problem to monitoring and evaluating it."

Increased Value

"Raising the price wasn't the only move. Combining it with the added quality and size let us build real value for the consumer, and capture enough of that value to reinvest in the product itself."
